In days gone by the tradition of taking care of the altar and the worship environment was the exclusive responsibility of the nuns associated with the respective church. Today, however, at Resurrection Parish, that job is the responsibility of the laity on the Environment Committee. Based on interest, we have divided the committee into “planners” and “doers”. A planning representative of the Environment Committee meets with the Liturgy Committee to discuss the upcoming “season” (Advent, Christmas, Lent & Easter). Themes and messages from the gospel are discussed and a general approach to the season is determined. The “planners” on the Environment Committee, then take the approach and determine the detailed implementation of a design in the worship environment. The “doers” join the planners on the day of implementation. The “doers” include men and women who all pitch in to set up what was planned. This includes (but isn’t limited to): ironing altar cloths, climbing ladders to put up decorations, moving /setting up plants, and arranging flowers. The intent of the work of the Environment Committee is to compliment, enhance and contribute to the worship experience of the Mass. The Environment Committee is always looking for creative people with some new ideas that will add to the long tradition of developing interesting and creative themes that support the liturgical year. In addition, we are always in need of “doers” who can help set up. Time commitment (Doers): Usually a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon is spent before the season to do set up, and then to take down we spend about 2 hours.
