Children’s Choir School (grades 3-8) rehearses every other Sunday from 8:00-8:45am and sings at the corresponding 8:45am Mass. During rehearsal, the children learn spoken and sung responses for the liturgy, as well as common hymns used in our faith community. It is our goal to guide each child’s religious formation through the learning of the rituals and music of the Mass, supporting the foundations and values taught in their Religious Formation classes. In addition, the Choir School children sing at the 4pm Christmas Eve Mass and the 8:45am Mass on Easter Sunday each year.
Youth Choir (grades 7-12) is geared toward the teens of our parish community with an interest in lending their musical talents (vocal or instrumental) to our liturgies and concerts. This group explores how different genres of music can fit into our musical worship, and often offers selections from gospel, contemporary Christian, musical theatre, and other popular music genres. The Youth Choir provides music for the Living Stations presentation on Good Friday. This group will rehearse at 6pm each Sunday, then attend the 7pm Sunday Mass afterwards. Young Musicians’ Ensemble (grades 6-12) is made up of young instrumentalists who lend their talents by accompanying hymns during weekend Masses. This is perfect for any young person who participates in band or orchestra in school! Young musicians arrive at least 30 minutes before the Mass their family attends and will read from special instrument parts provided by Josh, the Director of Music Ministry. Due to the short amount of rehearsal time, it is recommended that all participants have strong musicianship and music reading skills. Adult Choir (ages 18+) is the advanced choir within the Music Ministry. This choir is open to all adult parishioners who have a desire to make music and praise the Lord in song. This ensemble meets every Monday at 7:30pm from September to June for rehearsal, and sings every week at the 11:00am Sunday Mass. During rehearsal, the choir prepares for each weekly liturgy, and also prepares special musical selections for Confirmation, Advent, Christmas, Lent, the Holy Triduum, Easter, and the annual Christmas and Spring concerts. Although this choir sings at a more advanced level, anyone who would like to try singing with the choir is strongly encouraged to join (even if only for a season, i.e. Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, etc.) Summer Choir (all ages) is held every Sunday from June to September at 10am. This choir is open to parishioners of all ages! This “pickup choir” rehearses each Sunday in preparation for the 11:00am Mass immediately following. If you’ve always wanted to try singing in a group, this ensemble is for you! If you have friends, children, extended family, visitors, or anyone else who might be interested in making music with you, we encourage you to bring them along, even if they aren’t currently members of Resurrection Parish! This is a great introduction for people who are interested in joining any of Resurrection’s choirs during the year (Sept. – June). Handbell Choir (all ages) is an ensemble of “ringers” who supplement the music for the 11:00am Mass roughly twice a month, from September to June. This ensemble meets at 10am every other Sunday (alternating with Choir School weeks), and plays on designated acclamations, hymns, preludes, and postludes, according to the liturgical season. The handbell choir also offers special pieces for the Christmas and Spring concerts. This ensemble is open to parishioners of all ages and levels of musical experience and serves as a great gateway into the Music Ministry at Resurrection. If you have ever wanted to learn how to read music, the handbell choir is the perfect place to start!
