The sacristan supports daily Mass and Adoration (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) by preparing the church and credence table. We currently have a team of people who take turns performing the sacristan duties. Typical tasks include opening the church and turning on the lights and sound system, setting the altar up for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, arranging the credence table with the gifts to be brought to the altar, and lighting the candles. The sacristan also has the privilege of bringing the Blessed Sacrament from the Tabernacle to the altar and placing it in the Monstrance for Adoration. Often the sacristan will bring the gifts to the altar during Mass and assists the priest in the washing of hands. Complete instructions and training are provided. The time commitment entails about 15 – 20 minutes before Mass or Adoration begins and another 10 minutes after Mass to ensure that everything has been cleaned up/put away. If you would like to be more involved in daily Mass and get in on the action, why not consider joining the sacristan team? Contact Information: Jean Mindingall [email protected] 973-895-4224
